St. Julien site visit

Here's my report on my visit to Boulder's St. Julien hotel yesterday morning:

lawn

This is the view that we'd have for the ceremony (imagine the retaining wall with a lattice work the hight of the taller posts, to block the street view better). The chuppah would be in the corner, with a table over the electrical access plate, and the isle running diagonally across the lawn.

gazebo

This gazebo is where a lot of people set their ceremony. How dull. Who wants a view of a the hotel? The mountains are a much better backdrop than the hotel, IMHO.

Xanado III

This is the far end of the ballroom. There are 3 parts, this is the smallest.

chandelier

This is one the chandeliers that are in the ballroom. Just thought I'd show off how the ballroom is more modern/contemporary, and less East Coast opulent.

table settings

Here's the closer/front of the ballroom with breakfast table settings on cream cotton waffle table linens.

carpet

Here's a picture of the carpet. It's a dark bluish charcoal with a leafy motif. Definitely not the plushy paisley  we were seeing on the East Coast.

mountains from loby

Here's the view from the lobby. I LOVE BOULDER!

lobby fireplace

This is the lobby. The window looking area on the left is a HUGE gas fireplace. It has broken industrial glass on the bottom, instead of the fake logs that you usually see. The reason it looks like a window is that it can be opened on the other to provide a fireplace for the patio (where we'd have cocktails).

entrance

The main entrance. I like being pampered at nice hotels. It's a great touch when they open the door and greet you as you're coming and going. Such a nice touch.

Suit + tux = binge shopping

Ben, Miri, her husband Dan, and I went shopping for Ben's suit last night. We ended up finding him a tuxedo for the wedding on the clearance rack at Macy's. Between the clearance price, sale, and Ben opening a new account, the tux cost about $180. Plus, my dad will still get to take Ben shopping for all the accessories and maybe to get it tailored as well.

The suit was a lot harder to find. Ben wears a 40 long, and looks best in the slimmer, European cut suits. The stores my dad suggested we check out carried more of the standard America business suits, which just looked boxy and borrowed on Ben. We finally ended up, after trying a few other stores first, at Men's Warehouse. We called ahead to see how late they're open, so they were expecting us when we showed up 10 minutes later and the first suit Ben tried on looked great on him, a soft black suit with a subtle gray pinstripe. The hard part turned out to be finding a shirt and tie. Apparently 14 1/2" fitted shirts with a 33-34" sleeve are really rare. Oops. They had two in Ben's size, both a saturated sky blue, which thankfully is a great color on him. Then we had to find a tie, the best looking one had daisies on it, the store manager found the winner with a modern paisley. Thankfully, by opening a new store card and taking advantage of sale prices. Ben got a whole suit/shirt/tie outfit, including tailoring, for about $600.

It's a shame it's not at all affordable for me to go to this Bat Mitzvah too. I haven't really met this side of Ben's family yet and he's going to look sharp! I want to be his arm candy.

website music: a rant

Dear Potential Vendors:

If you have music that plays automatically on your site, we won't be hiring you. Seriously. You're no longer even a possibility.

Sorry, and good luck finding customers.

Sincerely,
Deena & Ben

Twirl factor = crucial

http://www.priscillaofboston.com/dress_detail.jsp?gid=550&sfid=50807&f=
um, I -really- like this dress. It is $1650 (about 1.5 months rent and 1/20 of our total budget) , and will be on sale in November for somewhere between 10 and 20% off. Me likey...... especially once it is ordered in a larger size and tailored to fit. The picture below is of me zipped up to my bra and then held in with a piece of cloth and some big pincer clips because my boobs were way too big for the dress. Why are they all in juniors sizing? Are brides supposed to be flat chested?

The picture is of me twirling "like Fiona" with Hannah, Becca's niece.

I kinda liked the whole ensemble, the short veil, the small tiara/headband thing.... crap, I'm turning girly!

PS- I promise not to be bridezilla. That's why I'm planning NOW, and not right before the wedding.

The Wedding Suit

Ben needs a suit. He is going to his cousin's Bat Mitzvah in 2 weeks, outside of NYC, where he will be expected to wear one. Since none of the suits in his closet are seasonable or the right kind of thing to wear, he's going shopping tomorrow either with a family friend of mine or with an older friend of ours. It would be good for him to go with someone who knows how a good suit should fit and isn't trying to sell him anything.

The good news is, my dad suggested he look at the suits that Joseph A. Banks carries and they appear to be having a huge Father's Day sale. Oh, and they have some awesome sounding new suiting line: Stays Cool. The lining was developed by NASA!

I know.... I sound like an advertisement, but seriously, who wouldn't want their clothes designed by NASA. Granted, they did invent velcro and that's not the most fashionable accessory, but it is VERY useful. Think of all the kids shoe laces that would have had to have been tied by adults before velcro shoes were invented! I didn't lear how to tie my own laces until I got glasses in the second grade. Probably because I couldn't SEE the laces before then. Oops.

CORRECTION: NASA did NOT invent Velcro! George de Mestral, a Swiss inventor figured out the hooks and loops that make up Velcro. Well, thanks Mr. de Mestral! I'm sorry that NASA seems to have inadvertently taken ownership of your invention.

The pretty pink dress

I want the pink frothy dress Carie wears for her going away dinner in episode 93. I want it in ivory with a lavender or pale blue crinoline and I want to wear it for a wedding dress. Well, I at least want to try it on. Every time this episode is on TV I manage to watch it and mentally drool over that dress. It's so awesome and perfectly swirly! That's what I want, swirly, but not too poofy or fluffy. I don't want to look like a Degas dancer. I'm just not a tulle girl.

PS- I want my hair to look like that too, minus all the dye. I like my natural color, it's actually not too far off from what her colorist was trying to create there, only more gold and less blond in the highlights.
